Drexel's to Host CAA Field Hockey Championships
Drexel's Women's Field Hockey won the 2009 Regular Season CAA Championship and will host the CAA Championships on Nov. 7-8 at Buckley Field. On November 7, the top-seeded Dragons will face No. 4 Hofstra at noon in the opening semifinal game while No. 2 Delaware will challenge No. 3 James Madison at 2:30 p.m. On Sunday, Nov. 8, the winners of the semifinal games will compete in the CAA Championship Final at 1p.m. General admission is $5 per day while students with ID from participating schools and children 12 and under are admitted free. A free shuttle to and from Buckley Field will be provided from 33rd and Market Streets for all Drexel students and staff with ID.Drexel has had a record-breaking season in 2009. The team is ranked 10th in the nation in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, the highest the Dragons have been slotted in program history. Drexel's 17-2 overall record set a program best for wins in a season while it also marks the first time in team history that the Dragons have captured a conference regular-season title.Forward Christina Mastropaolo is currently ranked third in the nation in goals with 27 and is tied for second in points with 65. Both are new Drexel single-season records. She has been named the CAA's Player of the Week four times this season.
