What/Who: John Hospodar, the 85-year-old father of ex-Philadelphia Flyer Ed “Boxcar” Hospodar, will be awarded an honorary MBA from Drexel’s LeBow College of Business at a special event on Thursday, May 21. Hospodar, a veteran of both World War II and the Korean conflict, began his MBA studies at Drexel in 1954 while working at the Campbell’s Soup Company in Camden, N.J. Just shy of graduating, before he was able to write his thesis, Campbell’s transferred Hospodar to another plant in Ohio. Background: A few months ago, as he was driving past Philadelphia with his son, Hospodar mentioned that his one regret was never finishing his MBA. A few days later, his son called LeBow to inquire if Hospodar could take a class or write a paper to meet the requirements needed to earn his degree. After reviewing Hospodar’s credentials and the records of his attendance on microfiche, LeBow College of Business decided to award Hospodar an honorary MBA without any further class work. Hospodar had actually maintained many papers from his days at Drexel 55 years ago including an original copy of his transcript, which he agreed to donate to the University’s archives. At Campbell’s, Hospodar rose to the level of vice president.
