What:Drexel University will host an international symposium in conjunction with the groundbreaking INK not INK exhibition. INK not INK will be the first survey-scale exhibition of contemporary Chinese art ever presented in the Greater Philadelphia region. More than 90 paintings, prints, sculptures, and videos by 40 Chinese artists, including renowned figures such as Wenda Gu, Wei Qingji, and Lin Tianmiao, will be presented. The symposium will examine the continuing role that the ancient tradition of ink painting plays in the cultural memory and imagination of contemporary Chinese artists. The INK not INK exhibition explores the complexities of how the present is informed by the past through traces, conscious or unconscious, of its abiding influence. Owners, directors, and curators of major galleries and museums will be in attendance along with many of the artists involved in the exhibition.
