Drexels Student-Run MAD Dragon Records Named Best College Label by IMA to Hold Philly Concert

What: Dubbed the “Best College Label” by Independent Music Awards, Drexel’s student-run MAD Dragon Records will host a night of Philly-based independent music on Friday. Who: Performing artists include: --The Spinto Band, (Park the Van Records), Wilmington, Del.-based indie-pop group, will headline the show. The group has expanded its fan base across the Atlantic, playing major European festivals and working with award-winning producers, Dave Trumfio (Wilco, Granddaddy) and Tchad Blake (Pearl Jam, Paul Simon, Soul Coughing). --Illinois, a Bucks County, Pa.-based band whose influences range from The Monkees to old-school hip-hop, were recently featured in Spin. The College Media Journal (CMJ) said the band is “catchy as hell, the arrangements are diverse and live—they’re just fun to watch.” --Slo-Mo, a hip-hop/bluegrass act from Philadelphia, boasting a steel guitarist, Mike Brenner, and emcee Mic Wrecka, will round out the line-up of local-based rising stars. --Hoots & Hellmouth have spent the past few months recording the follow-up to their 2007 self-titled debut album. The new album, produced by Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man), is set for a May release. --The Swimmers bring their distinctive brand of indie pop to the mix and have been labeled one of “Eight Bands to Watch” in 2008 by The Philadelphia Inquirer.
