Take Back the Night: Drexel Sorority to Help Raise Awareness of Violence Against Women

What: Drexel University’s Sigma Psi Zeta sorority will combat violence against women at its fourth annual Take Back the Night by holding a candlelight vigil in commemoration of victims and listening to testimony from an abuse survivor.

The sorority sisters will also raise money for Philadelphia shelters Women Against Abuse and Women Organized Against Rape.

One in four women and one in six men are sexually assaulted before they turn 18 years old, according to the National Institute of Justice.

Who: • Edwin Desamour, an outreach speaker from Women Organized Against Rape • Members of the Clothesline Project, which calls for women affected by violence to speak out by designing special color-coded T-shirts, and International Purple Ribbon Project, which aims to end interpersonal violence

Visuals: • Sigma Psi Zeta sisters and other Drexel students raising candles to pay tribute to victims of violence • Drexel students speaking out against violence to women

When: Tuesday, May 13, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Candles will be lighted at 8 p.m.
