Drexel Receives US Presidents Award for Efforts in Community Service
Drexel University has received recognition in the second annual 2007 Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, Drexel President Constantine Papadakis announced.
The honor roll is the highest federal recognition a university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service learning and civic engagement. It is a Corporation for National Community Service program and is sponsored by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participations, USA Freedom Corps and U.S. Departments of Education and Housing and Urban Development.
Drexel will receive recognition at a national awards ceremony and a listing on the president’s honor roll Web site.
In making the announcement about the honor roll, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings said: “Americans rely on our higher education system to prepare students for citizenship and the workforce. We look to institutions like these to provide leadership in partnering with local schools to shape the civic, democratic and economic future of our country.”
