Renowned Chef Georges Perrier to Visit with Local Teens at Drexels 11th Street Family Health Service
What/Who: Renowned chef and restaurateur Georges Perrier will visit with local teens at Drexel University’s 11th Street Family Health Services. Perrier will tour a vegetable garden they planted outside the facility, offer tips on how to prepare delicacies from the harvest, and share highlights from his career in the culinary arts.
The students are part of the Greater Philadelphia Federation of Settlements “Teens for Good” program that has partnered with Drexel’s health center to offer cooking classes to local teens. Patricia Gerrity, associate dean for community programs at Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions (CNHP), and Christine Nordstrom Stainton, a member of the CNHP dean’s advisory board, and Diane Cornman-Levy, executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Federation of Settlements, will welcome Perrier to the center.
Visuals: Perrier touring the garden…Perrier and the teens wearing aprons in the center’s kitchen…Perrier explaining what can be made from the freshly-harvested vegetables from gardens planted by the teens on 8th and Poplar Streets … views of the crops growing in the 11th Street garden, including tomato plants, potatoes and lettuce.

Background: Perrier received an honorary doctorate degree from Drexel University in 1991. He has taught in Drexel’s culinary arts program. He is also the co-owner of the new Table 31 restaurant in the Comcast Center, LeBec-Fin, Brasserie Perrier, Georges’ and Mia at Atlantic City.
The 11th Street Family Health Services of Drexel University is partnership between Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions, the Philadelphia Housing Authority and the Family Practice & Counseling Network.
