Air Products (NYSE:APD), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Drexel University have agreed to continue their Joint Cooperation Agreement for an integrated “3-2 Program” enabling two exceptional Chinese students per year the opportunity to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees and a corporate work assignment.Launched in 2007, the partnership was the first of its kind to involve a Chinese university, a U.S. university and an international corporation. Students concurrently complete three years of education at SJTU and an additional two years at Drexel, including a six-month internship assignment with Air Products. Upon completion of the program, students receive a bachelor’s degree in their engineering major from SJTU and a master’s degree in global engineering from Drexel. The first two students to join the program were Dawei Ren and Qinling Shen. They are currently working at Air Products in six-month process technology assignments as part of the overall curriculum.“I am gaining so much more from my work and personal encounters with colleagues at Air Products, and even senior leaders here, than I could ever have learned from books,” says Ren. “This excellent program will open many windows of opportunity for young people in China to know more about the world.”“The opportunity to study abroad, learn with my fellow students at Drexel as a team and be welcomed as a member of the Air Products family is such an honor for me,” adds Shen. “Every aspect of the program from the academics to daily life is looked after. It’s a novel approach to recruiting and building international talent in an increasingly competitive recruiting environment. The program most likely will serve as a model for establishing similar programs in other rapidly growing regions of the world, including Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.”Drexel University’s Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Anthony Lowman, added that “Drexel University is pleased to be able to join with two world-class organizations to form this unique partnership to help provide a global educational experience for the students of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Drexel. We hope it will become a model for similar programs sponsored by other multinational corporations.”Sponsorship costs for the program, including transportation, room, board and tuition are covered by Air Products and Drexel University. Students accepted into the program enroll in an agreed-upon course of study at Drexel.
