MAD Dragon Records Nominated for Three Prestigious 2008 Independent Music Awards

Drexel University’s student-run record label, MAD Dragon Records, has been nominated for three 2008 Independent Music Awards (IMAs). MAD Dragon was nominated twice in the “College Label of the Year” category for The Swimmers’ album Home and The Redwalls self-titled release. A nomination was also received for “Best Rock/Pop Song” for The Redwalls track Modern Diet. This nomination includes all independent music labels, not just those from college labels. Housed in Drexel’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, MAD Dragon Records won “Best College Label” at the 2007 Independent Music Awards (IMA) for Hoots & Hellmouth, another self-titled release. Andrew Lipke’s album The Long Way Home also received a nomination in the category. “MAD Dragon Records is what sets Drexel’s Music Industry Program apart from all similar programs,” said Music Industry Program Director Jim Klein. “Our students perform day-to-day industry functions with guidance from our faculty who are all experienced industry professionals. Students work for a real record label, the only college record label in America with nationwide distribution through Rykodisc/WarnerBros.” The Independent Music Awards (IMA) is a prestigious organization that accepts entries from all over the world including the United States, Japan, Cuba, Israel, Russia and the United Kingdom. It helps Indie artists and labels overcome mainstream obstacles by placing winners and finalists in front of more than 15 million new fans via promotion, marketing and distribution. The 2008 judges are music industry professionals and artists, including: Peter Gabriel, Anthony DeCurtis (Rolling Stone), Joe Cuello (MTV Networks), Roger Daltrey (The Who), Butch Walker (Producer) and Bob Ludwig (Mastering Engineer).MAD Dragon Records is a student-staffed and faculty-administered record label. Founded in 2003, MAD Dragon focuses on artist development and creates strategic alliances with professionals in the music industry to maximize the potential for each of its releases. Drexel's Music Industry program focuses on real-world applications of cutting edge production techniques and the most current business/law developments, coupled with a basic music education.
