Drexel Universitys MAD Dragon Records to Distribute The Redwalls New Album

MAD Dragon Records, Drexel University’s student-run record label, announces the Oct. 23 release of “The Redwalls,” an album from the Chicago-based band of the same name. MAD Dragon Records is housed in Drexel’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. The Redwalls kicked off a West Coast tour Aug. 7 and are previewing tracks from their upcoming full-length album. “The Redwalls” was produced by Tore Johansson (Franz Ferdinand, OK Go) and expands on the band’s rhythm and blues and power-pop with exploration of grittier sonic territories and song composition. The record follows up the critically acclaimed album “De Nova,” which attracted much attention. MTV featured the band as a “You Hear It First” artist. In support of “De Nova” the band toured the world with groups such as Oasis, Keane, Kaiser Chiefs, Rooney and OK Go and performed on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “The Tonight Show.”From the vibrant, punk-inspired opening track “Don’t You Wanna Come Out,” which mixes dance beats with a powerful guitar attack, to the soaring pop groove of “Summer Romance” and the rambunctious, ’60s stomp on “Modern Diet,” “The Redwalls” is an eclectic album and shows off the band’s ambition and musical skill.Eager to record a new album for their Capitol Records sophomore release, the band flew to Malmo, Sweden, to work with Johansson. In 40 days, the band recorded an album that replaces the layered tracks of their previous releases with stripped-down rhythm-and-blues pop-rock mixed with the barrelhouse energy of their live show. “The Redwalls” was recorded live to tape to capture raw emotion, rather than pristine perfection.Early this year, The Redwalls were dropped from Capitol Records after its merger with Virgin Records. The band completed their record, and Capitol Records gave the band the rights to the album. MAD Dragon Records landed distribution rights to “The Redwalls.”Drexel’s MAD Dragon Records and its music industry program have gained nationwide recognition since their launch in 2003. The music industry program reflects the diverse nature of the industry by offering students the ability to concentrate on record production (MAD Dragon Records), touring (DraKo Booking), concert promotion (MADKo Concerts), publishing (MAD Dragon Publishing) and music video production (MADFire MVP).For more information about the album, contact Steven Trachtenbroit of Big Hassle Media at 212-619-1360 or steven@bighassle.com.News media contact: Brian Rossiter, Drexel News Bureau 215-895-2705, 267-228-5599 (cell) or brian.rossiter@drexel.edu
