Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business has appointed Dr. Hsihui Chang as the first holder of the KPMG Professor of Accounting, Dean George P. Tsetsekos, announced. Chang joined LeBow College of Business on July 1 from Syracuse University, where he served as the Lubin Professor of Accounting. An accomplished researcher and outstanding teacher, Chang also served as a visiting scholar at LeBow College during the 2006-07 academic year.“Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business is proud of the relationships that we have established with the business community and KPMG in particular,” Tsetsekos said. “KPMG is a great partner of the College in advancing our educational mission and providing opportunities for our students and graduates. Now, with the creation of the KPMG Professor of Accounting, this relationship is adding considerable academic strength to the University.”As KPMG Professor, Chang will continue to pursue his research agenda and integrate his research efforts among the academic departments. His research interests are broad and include performance management, financial disclosures, productivity analysis, information technology, and public policy. “Dr. Chang will help enhance the quality of research in the accounting department and he has the opportunity to conduct research with our other academic departments, which will be a major benefit to LeBow College,” Tsetsekos said. The process of establishing the professorship began in the 1980s when KPMG employees, who were also Drexel alumni, recognized the importance of relevancy in accounting education and established a faculty development fund. Matching funding was provided by the KPMG Foundation. In 1999, KPMG reauthorized the fund to establish the KPMG Professor in Accounting to recognize the firm's contributions and strengthen the accounting department.“We are thrilled that Drexel University has hired Chang and we look forward to growing this relationship further,” said Carl Hertrich ’71, a partner in KPMG’s Philadelphia office. “Drexel graduates are very talented students and KPMG is proud that we are able to help Drexel and LeBow College augment their outstanding academic reputation.” Chang received the Best Teacher Award in 2000 at the School of Management at the University of Texas, Dallas. He has been published in numerous academic journals including MIS Quarterly, The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, European Journal of Operational Research, and Journal of Accounting and Public Policy. Chang will teach MBA and Executive MBA courses as well as Ph.D. research seminars. “I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Drexel community and contribute to the growth of LeBow College and in the education of our students,” Chang said. “The school has a growing reputation as a premier center of management education. The faculty is distinguished in their levels of interdisciplinary teaching and research and the University is located in a vibrant region.”Chang received his bachelor’s degree in business education from National Changhua University of Education in Taiwan in 1981. He earned his MBA in general management from the University of California in 1988 and in 1994 received his Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Minnesota.
