DVD/CD Media Servers for Academia

DVD/ CD Media Servers for Academia

Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design will host a meeting with Kaleidescape to demonstrate a Kaleidescape Media server for the purposes of digitizing and improving access to a DVD/CD library today, November 6, 2009 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in University Crossings room 028 (32nd and Market Streets). The purpose of this meeting will be to review the system's key features, discuss academic uses and provide an opportunity to interact with a Kaldeidescape engineer.

Kaleidescape's media server is a system that allows one to digitize an entire DVD/CD library and have all of the media available to multiple Kaleidescape players within the same network. With a digitized library, the user can browse and sort by genre, actor, date produced and start playing the DVD or jump to a specific bookmark created within a DVD without having to juggle DVDs. Users can create DVD scripts which will automatically play a sequence of DVD clips (that can vary in length) from within the same DVD or from multiple DVDs.

This is the first time one of these units has been shown at an academic institution. For more information about the technology, visit http://www.kaleidescape.com/

Faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend the free meeting. Registration is not required. For more information, contact Jason Rappaport, email jasonrap@drexel.edu.
