The mass shooting at a high school in Florida has sparked a wave of protests against gun violence at secondary and postsecondary schools across the country, including a national walkout planned for March 14 and a march in Washington, D.C. planned for March 24.
But some students fear that speaking out may reflect negatively on their college applications. That is not the case at Drexel. We welcome and respect student activism and citizenship, and can assure our college applicants that there will be no repercussions for peaceful, thoughtful and meaningful protests.
A number of universities have voiced similar support as The Washington Post reported recently as well as several other media outlets. We also support a statement issued by David Burge, the president of the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
