Mechanical Engineering Core Curriculum

Advanced Placement (AP) Credits
Drexel University recognizes the significance of superior scores earned by incoming freshmen on Advanced Placement (AP) examinations administered by the Educational Testing Service. Consideration of AP performance may accelerate a student's progress in his/her respective degree program.
Incoming freshmen who have received a score of 5 on any AP examination may elect, with the approval of their academic advisor, (1) to be placed in an advanced course in that AP subject, (2) substitute another course or credit-bearing activity in its place, or (3) waive the course and apply the course credit to meet graduation requirements.
Transfer Students
Drexel has transfer agreements with several colleges and universities and provides the opportunity to transfer credits to Drexel toward the satisfaction of the degree requirements.
The Undergraduate Advising Center provides information on transferring to Drexel University.
Minors
Within the MEM curriculum, the opportunity exists to complete at least one minor subject area. Common minors are mathematics, languages, business, and other engineering designations. Each minor has its own set or requirements, please refer to the Drexel University Catalog to learn more about minors.
BS/MS Program
High achieving students have the opportunity to apply for the BS/MS program which allows students to complete both a Bachelor's and Master's in Mechanical Engineering in a 5-year period. The minimum GPA requirement to apply for the program is 3.2.
Entering students can indicate their interest in this program on their application but, must formally apply, qualify and be accepted into the program after earning 90-120 credits.
Students in the 5COP accelerated program will progress according to the program plan established for the 5-year with coop undergraduate (or 5COP) program and maintain undergraduate status throughout. The 5COP program includes three 6-month cooperative education cycles.
The College of Engineering offers additional information about the BS/MS program on its website. Current students who would like to apply for the BS/MS program should contact the department advisor.
Honors Program
The Pennoni Honors College provides a rich array of course experiences to its students. Honors courses, taught by the University’s best faculty, are rigorous, enriching and discussion intensive. By becoming an Honors student at Drexel, you join a thriving community of young scholars whose courses are enriched, whose social and cultural experiences are diverse, and whose academic progress receives the care it deserves. The traditionally smaller class size in Honors courses encourages collaborative learning among the Honors College students and provides an academic setting in which the University’s most talented students can interact and learn.
