Ying Jin, PhD, is a research assistant professor in the Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy at Drexel University College of Medicine.

Research Interests

Axonal regeneration and functional recovery after spinal cord injury

Research

My research interests are focused on acute, sub-acute and chronic spinal cord injury (SCI), in particular promoting axonal regeneration and functional recovery. I have been working on SCI using different injury models such as contusion, hemisection and transection; different treatments including cell transplantation (rodent neural stem cells, fetal spinal cord, peripheral nerve graft, human glial restricted progenitor, human embryonic stem cells and human induced pluripotent stem cells), biomaterials and gene therapy, and I have created a gradient for axonal growth. Recently I have been working on developing a new model for spinal cord concussion and studying the consequences of repeated spinal cord concussion, as well as combined spinal cord concussion and brain concussion on behavior and anatomy.
