The students and faculty of Drexel University College of Medicine are the direct recipients of the generosity of alumni who credit their career success to the medical education and experiences at Drexel and the legacy schools (Women's Medical College ~ Medical College of Pennsylvania ~ Hahnemann University). As each generation of alumni reflects on the excellence and value of their medical education, their gratitude is demonstrated by generous support of the College through donations to scholarship funds, academic, clinical and research programs, and cutting-edge technology.

Scholarship Aid

Scholarship aid is a priority at Drexel University College of Medicine. The average debt burden for the majority of recent graduates is in excess of $200,000. Young physicians often feel compelled to choose a specialty with a greater potential for economic return rather than an area of passion or interest that generates less income. Many health care experts who forecast a shortage of generalists in the coming years cite this as one of the reasons driving young physicians away from primary care. Scholarship recipients are extremely grateful for relief from undue financial worry, allowing them to focus more directly on their day-to-day studies and clinical experiences. Because the cost of a medical education is at an all-time high, now more than ever medical students benefit from the generous support of alumni and friends.

Academic instruction in science and technology is enriched by an emphasis on compassionate patient care and community service. In addition, the College of Medicine faculty and students are dedicated to discovery propelled by the dynamic convergence of the physical and biological sciences with engineering and information technologies. Interdepartmental collaboration is a key element in the quest for solutions to complex disease entities and treatment modalities.

Technology

First year medical students at Drexel receive iPads loaded with their curriculum and can access study materials, lecture notes, and histology slides, as well as the latest applications as they become available. The Independence Blue Cross Medical Simulation Center at the Queen Lane Campus includes the latest high-fidelity human patient simulators to help students and practicing physicians gain experience in a realistic, interactive clinical environment with the newest technology available. Donations help make possible these advances in technology and others that strengthen the knowledge and understanding of the future generations of physicians, teachers and research scientists.
