Can you tell me a little about yourself before you came to Drexel?

Prior to attending Drexel, I worked at Massachusetts General Hospital for two years as a Clinical Research Coordinator on clinical trials for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. I was an economics major at Trinity College where I was also a member of the varsity soccer team.

When did you know that you wanted to become a doctor?

Growing up I had several friends whose parents were physicians and I saw how satisfied they were with their profession, so it was something I considered. Once I entered college, I wanted to keep my options open, so I made sure I took the required pre-med courses along with my economics major. During this time, I had the opportunity to shadow physicians and this furthered my desire to enter the medical profession. After completing my first year of medical school, I am extremely happy that I have chosen this path.

Do you know what kind of medicine you'd like to specialize in?

There are many specialties that I have interest in, so I am keeping an open mind until I complete my third-year rotations. With that being said, I am presently drawn toward exploring anesthesia, radiology, orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.

Why did you apply to Drexel's medical school program?

Many things attracted me to Drexel, but the biggest thing was the people. When I visited, the students were so friendly and genuinely seemed to be enjoying their time. The school stressed a balance between school and personal life, which was important to me. The students are able to pursue their outside interests and passions.

How has the program been going so far?

The program has been great! I recently completed my first year, which was both challenging and exciting. I am excited to get back for my second year and to continue to learn what it takes to become a great doctor!

What is your relationship like with the faculty?

The faculty are amazing. They are very accessible and approachable. Their encouragement and genuine desire to provide additional help and support makes it easy to reach out to them to discuss the material and develop a personal relationship.

What is your relationship like with your fellow classmates?

My classmates are incredible. There is a great sense of camaraderie and collaboration. Students work together and are always willing to provide study tips or study guides to help their classmates. Additionally, we love to have fun together and explore Philadelphia when we have time!

Do you like living in Philadelphia?

I love living in Philadelphia. Being in a big city provides many opportunities, and Philadelphia is a wonderful city to be in as a medical student because it has numerous hospitals that provide opportunities to shadow or engage in research. As a major city, it provides an outlet for whatever you choose to do in your limited free time. The only drawback is the Eagles and Sixers fans, as I am a big Boston sports fan! Additionally, my brother lives here so it has been great to be close to him.

Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

During my first year I was a mentor to a seventh grader at St. James School through my Longitudinal Community Care Practicum (LCCP), and I also participated in the Kelly Readers program where we helped kindergarteners with their reading skills. I am on the Admissions and Enrollment Steering Committee, and I am a member of the Drexel Soccer Club, which won the Philadelphia Professional School League this past fall. I am also involved in several different medical specialties interest groups to learn more about the various fields and obtain shadowing experience. Lastly, I am participating in the Medical Humanities Track , which has been a great way to round out my medical education.

What advice do you have for someone who is considering coming to Drexel for medical school?

If you are looking for a school where professors want to help you succeed and you want to make great friends along the way, then this is the place for you! The diverse and collaborative student body assures that no matter your interests you will meet plenty of like-minded and engaged students. Finally, the school's location situated near public parks and the Schuylkill River Walk provides a refreshing break from the urban area.
