MD Program Transfer Application Requirements

Please see below for the application and eligibility requirements to be considered for advanced standing.


Application Deadlines

2nd Year

  • All materials due May 15
  • If invited, zoom interviews take place between May 30 and June 15
  • Decisions completed by July 15

3rd Year

  • All materials due by March 1 including Step 1 results (only applicants with passing Step 1 results will be considered)
  • If invited, zoom interviews take place between March 15 and March 30
  • Decisions completed by April 15

Eligibility

  • US citizenship or permanent residency (copy of valid green card required)
  • Completion of the science pre-requisite courses at a US or Canadian undergraduate school
  • MCAT exam
  • Students must be in good standing and currently attending an LCME accredited medical school
    • Must have satisfactorily completed all first year courses (for applicants to the second year class) or all first and second year courses (for applicants to the third year class)
  • USMLE Step 1 scores received by March 1 (for applicants to the third-year class)
  • Must have satisfactory completion of a pre clerkship MD curriculum that is comparable to in curricular content

Completion Requirements

  • Completed Advanced Standing Application Form (the link will be sent only to eligible appilcants), and non-refundable $115.00 processing fee.
  • Letter from the Dean of Students or other responsible administrative official at your medical school documenting that you are a student in good standing and indicating support and eligibility for transfer. This letter must also contain any institutional actions.
  • The following supporting documents:
    • Official transcripts of medical school performance
    • Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate colleges/universities attended
    • Official report of MCAT scores
    • Two letters of recommendation from current medical school professors
    • For students applying to enter the second-year class, official syllabi for all courses completed at current medical school
    • Release of AMCAS application to DUCOM
    • Satisfactory criminal background and child abuse checks
  • Passing USMLE Step 1 test results must be received by March 1 to be eligible for 3rd year.
  • Interviews by Zoom are required. The Admissions Office will notify applicants who are designated for interview.

Completed Files and the Review Process

  • Complete files will be made available for careful review by the Senior Associate Dean for Admissions and the Associate Dean for Admissions and Enrollment to determine whether an interview is warranted for each applicant.
  • Applicants who are identified as highly competitive with our student body will be invited for a zoom interview.
  • Following a zoom interview and scoring of their application file by a faculty interviewer, an admissions committee member will independently review each file and an additional score will be assigned.
  • The completed file of all interviewed applicants will be brought to the Advanced Standing Admissions Committee which will include basic science and clinical faculty. The committee will evaluate each potential transfer student and make a recommendation regarding acceptance. The acceptable transfer applicants are ranked with the most desirable applicants at the top of the list. Decisions are emailed to the applicants following the timeline(s) stated above and will continue until all positions are filled.
  • Accepted advanced standing applicants will be assigned to a campus(s) and/or clinical site(s) based upon availability.
