Admissions Criteria
Drexel's program is best suited for students with the following neuroscience interests:
- Spinal cord and brain injury
- Cellular and developmental neurosciences
- Neurodegenerative diseases
- Systems and behavioral neurobiology
- Neuropsychiatric disorders
- Neuroengineering
There are no minimum requirements, but applicants should be competitive with regard to grades, research experience and letters of recommendation. Applicants are encouraged to use email to contact any of the faculty of the program with whom they may share scientific interests to discuss their suitability to the program and/or potential projects in relevant laboratories.

Application Deadlines
Application deadline for the PhD in Neuroscience:
- Domestic fall deadline: December 15
- International fall deadline: December 15
Application deadline for the Master of Science in Neuroscience:
- Domestic fall deadline: May 15
- International fall deadline: May 1
Please note that the application period may close early if the desired class size is reached prior to the stated deadlines.

Required Components of a Completed Application
To be considered for admission, an applicant must provide the following as part of a complete online application for admission. For details regarding the items below please review the Admission Application Instructions.
Graduate Admission Application
Applicants may only apply to one program. All documents submitted by you or on your behalf in support of this application for admission to Drexel University become the property of the University, and will under no circumstances be released to you or any other party. Please note, an application fee of $75 U.S. is required.
Transcripts
Official transcripts must be sent directly to Drexel from all the colleges/universities that you have attended. Please note that transcripts are required regardless of the number of credits taken or if the credits were transferred to another school. An admission decision may be delayed if you do not send transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. (See checklist)
Standardized Test Scores
The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is not required for admission to the Neuroscience MS or PhD programs. International applicants must demonstrate their comprehension of the English language by submitting results on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
Essay/Personal Statement
Please write approximately 500 words explaining your reasons for pursuing a degree from Drexel; discuss personal goals, conditions or career aspirations that motivate you to pursue graduate study at Drexel University; what are your most important accomplishments; and what do you expect to achieve through this program. Please submit your essay with your application or through the Discover Drexel portal after you submit your application.

Upload your résumé as part of your admission application or through the Discover Drexel portal after you submit your application.
Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation are required. To electronically request recommendations, you must list your recommenders and their contact information on your application. We advise that you follow up with your recommenders to ensure they received your recommendation request — they may need to check their junk mail folder. Additionally, it is your responsibility to confirm that your recommenders will submit letters by your application deadline and follow up with recommenders who have not completed their recommendations. Request recommendations with your application or through the Discover Drexel portal after you submit your application.

MS in Neuroscience Program Scholarship
The Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy has allocated funds for scholarships for matriculants of the Master of Science in Neuroscience program who have overcome personal, academic, or financial obstacles that may have limited their access to academic and research opportunities. This scholarship will be awarded to two students who are citizens or permanent residents of the US to cover half the tuition over two years of their education.
Awards will be made on a holistic review of:
- Student’s potential for academic achievement
- Student’s application packet, including (but not limited to) transcripts, recommendation letters and personal statement that describes the obstacles the student has faced and how those obstacles were overcome.

Financial Information
Tuition information for the Neuroscience program is available on the Drexel Central website.
Financial aid is available from many sources, such as the federal government and private organizations, or from the University itself. Financial aid may be in the form of loans, grants, scholarships or part-time employment. For information regarding financing your education, please visit Drexel Central.
Financial Planning Services
Financing a graduate school education can be a daunting task, but at Drexel University College of Medicine it doesn't have to be. Our students have access to a certified financial planner who specializes in financial planning services for graduate and medical students.
Drexel University College of Medicine's financial planner is on staff full time to assist all students and their families with counseling and financial planning during and after their medical and graduate school years. This service is designed to address the student's entire financial picture beyond financial aid.
