Histotechnology Meet Alum Harry Li (Class of 2016)

"I started the Master of Science in Histotechnology program at Drexel in the fall of 2015. I have been interested in histology from a young age. My father had taken me many times to see him work in a histology laboratory. When I heard that Drexel offered a master's program for histotechnology, I immediately sought out the opportunity to learn from professional histologists. After joining the program, I acquired new knowledge about processing, embedding, cutting, and staining tissue samples. All the teachers were wonderful and offered valuable advice on how to perform each of these tasks both efficiently and proficiently. This program has also taught me much about working diligently in a laboratory setting.

"I took my HT exam soon after graduation in 2016. Thanks to the curriculum offered by Drexel's program, I was able to pass on my first try. Afterwards, I sent many applications to different histology laboratories. Within a few days, I heard back from several laboratories offering job interviews. I learned from this experience that there were many opportunities to work in the histology field. Receiving a master's degree from Drexel proved to be incredibly advantageous. The recruiters instantly knew I was well-qualified to handle the many tasks performed in a histology laboratory.

"Today, I am applying the skills that I obtained at Drexel in a medical histology laboratory in Virginia. I enjoy helping my fellow coworkers embed tissue and cut sections for pathology slides. There is great camaraderie in this profession. Everyone assists in providing the best slides possible for the pathologists. The best experience is hearing that the pathologists were able to render an accurate diagnosis using a slide that you prepared. I wish everyone future success during and after participating in the histotechnology program at Drexel."
