Histotechnology (MHP) Students & Alumni

Chris C., HT, HTL (Class of 2020)

After working in a diagnostic lab for two years following my biology degree, I found the Histotechnology program. With the help of my degree and references, I got my first job at a local hospital three months after graduating, during the pandemic, and passed the HT exam. About four months later I passed the HTL exam. Working at the hospital was a great experience that involved me at every step in a single day, promoting multitasking, general knowledge and even troubleshooting. I currently am a traveling technician on my first assignment in a larger lab, which I hope will be an equally fulfilling experience. Read more.

Tariq White, MS (Class of 2017)

I originally came to Drexel University College of Medicine in Fall 2014 to attend the Master of Science in Biomedical Studies program, but I switched to the MS in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences program. There I had the opportunity to hear Ms. Rader speak about the Master of Science in Histotechnology Program (MHP). The presentation she gave about the program resonated because I was looking for a change-of-career MS program that would provide greater job opportunities upon graduation. I was already in my second year of my first MS degree, so I completed that degree in May 2016. I started the Histotechnology program in August 2016 and graduated the following year in August 2017. Chiemela Nwaobasi, MS, HT (ASCP)

I learned about Drexel's histotechnology program while enrolled in another program at Drexel University. My current program did not guarantee me job security and opportunities for growth. After doing my research, I applied and completed the histology program. Upon completion, I had two job offers that raised my pay grade by almost 50%. When I reflect on my time at Drexel's MHP program, I conclude that the experience not only made me a better histologist but also prepared me for leadership in the field of histology. Through cohorts with incredibly supportive classmates and professors that were nothing short of champions, I was challenged to discover potentials that I didn't know I had. Read more.

Harry Li (Class of 2016)

I started the Master of Science in Histotechnology program at Drexel in the fall of 2015. I have been interested in histology from a young age. My father had taken me many times to see him work in a histology laboratory. When I heard that Drexel offered a master's program for histotechnology, I immediately sought out the opportunity to learn from professional histologists. After joining the program, I acquired new knowledge about processing, embedding, cutting, and staining tissue samples. All the teachers were wonderful and offered valuable advice on how to perform each of these tasks both efficiently and proficiently. Read more.

Yaming Wang (Class of 2013)

I am a 2013 graduate of the Histotechnology program. Although I had some histotechnology knowledge and skills from my previous jobs, mainly from research, the program has prepared me to work in clinical histology labs. I got my HT certification right after graduating from the school and then my HTL certification one year after. Since then, I have worked in three histology labs, including a small private pathology lab, a biotech company and a comprehensive academic medical center. I am a histotechnogist II at Stanford Health Care now. I strongly felt that the program has provided me with appropriate training to feel confident working in any type of histology lab.

Jia Sun (Class of 2010)

I am an international student who completed the Master of Science in Histotechnology program in 2010. After I graduated from this program, I worked at Penn Medicine for three years before deciding to go back to China. Although many years have passed, I still remember my time at Drexel with my classmates, the faculty and staff. Their passion, professionalism and kindness have had a positive influence on me, especially our directors, Chris and Tina, who made sure no one fell behind and everyone could get a job after graduating. This program not only taught us all the knowledge and skills within the field, but it helped us pass the ASCP HT Board Exam as well. There is no doubt that this program aims to train leaders in the histotechnology field.
