IMMID Center for Business and Program Development Research

Faculty and researchers at the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease Center for Business and Program Development hypothesize that learner experience can be enhanced by introducing in biomedical graduate programs existing and emerging trends in higher education (e.g., online learning, game-based learning or GBL).

Specific areas of research in e-learning in biomedical education include:

  • Effective methods to teach graduate students online
  • Methods for systematic development and management of online curriculum based on face-to-face curriculum
  • Comparative assessment of student performance on traditional vs. online programs
  • Implementation of flipped classroom methodology in biomedical sciences

Specific research interests include in GBL:

  • Effectiveness of digital games as supplementary pedagogical tools for graduate biomedical education
  • Students' perceptions of digital GBL for higher education in biomedical sciences
  • Crucial components and features of effective educational digital games for biomedical education
  • Innovative models for in-house digital game development in academic science institutions

Research collaborators include faculty at Drexel University School of Education and Drexel University's Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design.
