Oxide Films & Interfaces Group
The Oxide Films and Interfaces Group (OFI) aims to discover new materials for the next generation of energy conversion, energy storage and electronic devices. Using a technique known as molecular beam epitaxy, thin films and superlattices are deposited with single unit cell precision. Researchers in the group apply this technique to the complex oxides, a fascinating class of materials already used in fuel cells, batteries, and electronics due to their multifunctional electronic, magnetic, and structural properties. In addition to synthesis, they utilize a range of characterization techniques including electrical, optical, and structural measurements performed at Drexel, as well as advanced x-ray and neutron scattering performed at national laboratories.
