Barsoum Selected for Nanosciences Foundation Chair of Excellence

Michel Barsoum

Distinguished Professor Michel Barsoum has been selected for a Chair of Excellence in Grenoble, France by the Nanosciences Foundation. The Nanosciences Foundation was formed to support collaborative and multidisciplinary research in the area of nanoelectronics, specifically in Grenoble.

The Foundation awards Chairs of Excellence, typically one per year, to an international cadre of researchers, providing them funding to purchase equipment and recruit doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers and to conduct research throughout France, primarily in Grenoble. The three-year award with a budget of €300,000 is slated to begin in January 2017.

Barsoum will be collaborating with scientists at the world-class Néel Institute and Laboratoire des Matériaux et du Génie Physique (LMPG), both in Grenoble. The researchers will characterize MXene monolayers and MXene-based heterojunctions. MXenes are an exciting and potentially technologically important new family of two-dimensional materials discovered at Drexel University in 2011.
