Three Drexel Materials students participated in the 2015 Congressional Visits Day, organized by Material Advantage.

BS/MS students Ziyin Huang (advisor: Christopher Li) and Bill Nguyen, and PhD student Amanda Pentecost (advisor: Yury Gogotsi) received travel awards from Material Advantage to travel to Washington, DC and meet with members of Congress on April 15, 2015. They met with New Jersey’s 1st district representative Donald Norcross and his staffer, as well as Pennsylvania’s 13th district representative Brendan Boyle’s staffer. The students spoke with each representative about how federal STEM funding, particularly funding for the National Science Foundation, has personally impacted them and has allowed for the opportunity to perform cutting-edge research at Drexel.

Congressional Visits Day is an annual event sponsored by Material Advantage, the student program for four different materials professional societies, to bring students to Washington, DC to raise the visibility and support for science, engineering, and technology.
