Ph.D. alumnus Siddhartha Pathak (Ph.D. 2009, advisor: Surya Kalidindi) has been selected as one of the 2012 Director's Postdoctoral Fellows at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

An international fellowship program, candidates for this competitive fellowship are selected based on the strengths of their academic and research accomplishments as well as the strength of their proposed research. The selected fellows collaborate with LANL scientists and engineers on staff-initiated research. At LANL Pathak will be mostly working with Dr. Amit Misra's group in the Center of Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) division.  Since 2010, Pathak has been working at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) as the W. M. Keck Institute for Space Studies Postdoctoral Fellow in Materials Science

Additionally, one of Pathak's papers published with Kalidindi has been selected as the January finalist for the 2012 Cahn Prize of the Journal of Materials Science. The Cahn Prize has been named in honor of the journal’s founding editor, the late Professor Robert Wolfgang Cahn. This annual prize recognizes a truly exceptional original research paper published in the journal in a particular calendar year. The winning paper will be selected from the twelve finalists by a separate panel of distinguished materials scientists. The winner will be announced at the MRS meeting in December 2012.
