An open house to discuss Drexel’s Public Realm Plan for the University City Campus with representatives from landscape architects and planners West 8 will be on Friday, May 6, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., in the lobby of the Drexel Recreation Center. The Public Realm Plan is part of the Master Planning initiative of the University’s Strategic Plan.
Drexel has engaged West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture to help plan the open spaces, landscapes and streetscapes of the University City campus. The plan’s purpose is to improve the quality of life on campus by creating a more inviting and distinctly Drexel sense of place.
“West 8 has spent time getting to know our campus and listening to members of the community,” said Nancy Trainer, associate vice president and university architect for
University Facilities. “They’ve developed some preliminary ideas and drawings we’re excited to share for input and discussion.”
In addition to West 8, a representative from Andropogon Associates will also be attending the event. Andropogon are the landscape architects for the upcoming renovation of the Academic Quad, soon to be renamed the Korman Quadrangle.
The goals of the Public Realm Master Plan include making the campus more people-friendly and providing a framework that facilitates connections to the city, to adjacent neighborhoods and among various campus precincts.
