Hey guys! My name’s Denney Pham and I am the DCS Site Leader for the Lombard Soup Kitchen. It’s a pleasure to meetcha! To give you a little intro about myself, I am from California and am currently a sophomore at Drexel—majoring in Design & Merchandising (with minors in Environmental Studies and Marketing). Aside from DCS, I am also active in Sierra Club, the Honors College (as a mentor), and entertainmentuonline.com (as an editor). But enough about me… let’s talk soup kitchen!
The Lombard Soup Kitchen is run by The Lombard Central Presbyterian Church and is located on 42nd and Powelton (only a quick walk from Drexel’s main campus). Every week, they provide delicious home-cooked food and a loving environment to over 100 homeless men and women. The amazing work that they do is all possible because of the help of dedicated volunteers (like the students from Drexel!)
The soup kitchen is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 12pm (I go on Fridays). Volunteers are needed for various simple tasks including: helping to prepare and serve lunch, assembling gift bags in the back storage room for those who could not attend the meal, and helping with the distribution of coats, blankets, and other materials.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, let me know! Also, if you have ANY questions or would like to schedule service, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll be more than glad to get back to yah.
