Exploring the World on Co-op

A Drexel student on a co-op experience

For my third co-op at Drexel, I traveled to Walldorf, Germany, to join SAP, a global leader in enterprise applications and business AI, on their Corporate Sustainability team. There, I focused on human rights. My main project involved analyzing data for SAP's Controversial Weapons Policy, helping identify companies that conflict with SAP's values and its commitment to the United Nations Global Compact Principles. This work supports SAP's efforts to promote ethical business practices across the enterprise software industry.

Nearly all travel and accommodations were sponsored by SAP through the STAR (Student Training and Rotation) Program, which offers multi-year internships with team rotations. I've completed all three of my Drexel co-ops with SAP, gaining experience in consulting, data analytics, and now corporate sustainability — an opportunity I'm incredibly grateful for.

Drexel's multidisciplinary approach has shaped my education, and this rotation allowed me to apply those principles to meaningful work in corporate social sustainability.

Living in Germany was a memorable experience. The SAP Global Headquarters was buzzing with innovation, collaboration, and international energy. Working on-site allowed me to connect with colleagues and fellow interns from around the world! Early on, I mentioned wanting to bike to work, and my team lead kindly lent me one. This gave me the chance to enjoy the beautiful countryside while participating in SAP's Bike to Work Sustainability campaign.

Outside of work, I explored nearby cities like Heidelberg and Mannheim, which were just a short train ride away. I took advantage of Germany's central location to travel on weekends, backpacking through Munich and Berlin and venturing beyond Germany to Brussels, Amsterdam, Rome, Florence, and my favorite — Paris. I also visited the United Kingdom and Ireland before returning to the U.S.

This co-op experience was not only a professional milestone but also a personal one. Drexel's multidisciplinary approach has shaped my education, and this rotation allowed me to apply those principles to meaningful work in corporate social sustainability.
