Be the Change: Revamping Drexel's Chapter of the American Marketing Association

A Drexel student profile image

When I first joined the American Marketing Association Drexel chapter (AMA Drexel), the club was small and, honestly, a bit quiet. There were a few events here and there, not a lot of energy, and definitely not the kind of creative spark you'd expect from a marketing club. I remember thinking that it should feel different.

Since the start of my undergrad journey, I've wanted to leave the marketing community at Drexel better than I found it. With so many marketing majors on campus, there should be a strong community where students can learn, grow, and thrive together. Marketing should be fun, exciting, and full of collaboration, and I saw an opportunity to help take AMA Drexel to new heights.

Let's just say it has been incredible to see what can happen when a group of students step up to make things happen. This year, our executive board set out to revamp the club from the inside out. And it's not a one-person effort. Every member plays an important role. Whether it's our president, Sophie; marketing chair, Mariah; communications chair, Nidhin; or any of the other dedicated members of our seven-person executive board, everyone contributes in their own way, all supported by our incredible advisor, Professor Dimitrova. Even something small like taking photos at events, updating our DragonLink, or showing up to weekly meetings adds up.

Start small, but start now... There's never been a greater time to get involved, find ways to elevate your club experience, and leave your club better than you found it.

We've built an environment where everyone can lead, and that mindset has shaped everything we do. Recently, our team spent more than three hours interviewing for a new social media committee and held a Sunday evening photoshoot early in the fall quarter to film videos and take headshots. We launched a brand-new website that looks polished, professional, and full of personality. We also partnered with the Philadelphia Ad Club, which now allows Drexel students to network with over 2,500 advertising and creative professionals at their events for free.

The results are already showing. We're seeing more familiar faces return to meetings, more engagement online, and more buzz from faculty who are excited to share what we're doing in their classes. As co-op season approaches, I'm excited to share this experience in my interviews.

Reviving AMA Drexel has been more than a leadership role. It's proof of what can happen when students take initiative and build something real. I hope that this momentum creates more opportunities for my peers, someday co-ops, and maybe even inspires another student reading this to level up their own club.

If there's a club that doesn't exist, create it. If your club feels quiet, find ways to help bring it back to life. Start small, but start now. Remember to work as a team, make a difference, and enjoy the process. There's never been a greater time to get involved, find ways to elevate your club experience, and leave your club better than you found it.
