Laboring from Detroit to Philly

Thursday, October 2, 2014

5:00 PM-6:00 PM

In 2013, Detroit became the first major American city to declare bankruptcy, yet municipalities across the country face strained budgets in tough economic times.  The National Lawyers Guild and Labor and Employment Law Society will hold a panel to discuss Detroit's bankruptcy, its impact on labor unions and its varied legal, political and policy implications.

Speakers will include Michael Artz, adjunct professor at American University, who represented AFSCME throughout the Detroit bankruptcy, and Elena Medina, counsel for SEIU in Los Angeles, Calif.
