Professor David S. Cohen’s “Living in the Crosshairs” Named a Top 10 Feminist Book of 2015

Professor David S. Cohen and Alumna Krysten Connon Discuss their book "Living in the Crosshairs" on MSNBC

January 14, 2016

Ms. Magazine has named “Living in the Crosshairs: The Untold Stories of Anti-Abortion Terrorism,” a book by Professor David S. Cohen and ’12 alumna Krysten Connon, one of the Top 10 feminist books of 2015.

The book’s detailed account of harassment, stalking and threats that abortion providers face across the country “shines a light on the courageous individuals who risk their lives to protect women’s right to a safe and legal medical procedure,” the magazine said.

Citing a spike in violence that followed last summer’s adverse publicity campaign against Planned Parenthood, the magazine said “the need understand the severity of threats against abortion providers could not be more critical.”

The Top 10 list also included Jon Krakauer’s “Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town,” Gloria Steinem’s “My Life on the Road” and Toni Morrison’s “God Help the Child.”

Published by Oxford University Press, “Living in the Crosshairs” draws from interviews Cohen and Connon’s conducted with nearly 90 abortion providers and clinic volunteers and outlines legal and policy reforms that would help protect them and their patients from violence.

The authors have been interviewed on NPR's "Fresh Air," MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry's program and in other prominent media outlets.
