Graduate Michael Benz Advances to Semi-Finals of Top Gun Trial Competition

June 11, 2012

Class of 2012 graduate Michael Benz was among the final four competitors in the Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition which concluded on June 10 at Baylor Law School in Texas.

The Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition is an invitation-only mock trial tournament where the top 16 advocates from country's best trial advocacy schools go head-to-head for the honor of Top Gun.  The Baylor Law School committee selected Benz based on his exceptional performances in other trial competitions throughout the year.

Benz advanced from the round of 16 to the final four semi-final round.  Benz lost the semi-final round to the competition's ultimate winner.

Fellow graduate Margaret Wheltle coached Benz in the competition.  The competition marked Benz and Wheltle’s second trip to Texas since March. The pair were semi-finalists in this year’s Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Team Competition, reaching the final four after defeating Yale Law School.

In addition to Benz and Wheltle's successes, various other law school competitive teams had a banner year with students emerging victorious from numerous mock trial, moot court, transactional lawyering and alternative dispute resolution competitions.  Read more here.
