Professor Richard Frankel Comments on Sandusky Bail Conditions in Christian Science Monitor

February 13, 2012

The Christian Science Monitor quoted Professor Richard Frankel Feb. 10 on a request by former Penn State football coach and accused pedophile Jerry Sandusky for less restrictive bail conditions.

Sandusky is under house arrest while awaiting trial on 52 counts relating to the sexual abuse of boys.

On Feb. 10, Sandusky asked a Pennsylvania judge for permission to interact with his grandchildren at his home and via telephone and to leave his home to meet with attorneys.

Pennsylvania’s attorney general opposed the move and urged the judge to prohibit Sandusky from spending time on the deck of his home, which overlooks a playground.

Frankel said the judge will not likely agree with the prosecution, since bail conditions are usually determined by the likelihood of a flight risk or hazards to the community.
