Transportation Security Administration Showers ’15 Alumnus with Awards

Alumnus Ian Mandell, a special legal assistant to the Chief Counsel of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration in Washington, D.C., has received three awards from the agency.

Mandell, ’15, received the TSA Office of Chief Counsel’s Kerner’s Crew Award for contributions he has made since being special legal assistant in March. He began serving as attorney advisor to the office in 2015.

He received a Team Excellence Award for his role in securing more than $1.1 million in penalties and corrective actions from nine air carriers that had violated security requirements.

Mandell also received the One OCC Award for his efforts to prepare for and follow up on a March 2, 2017hearing on withholding of information concerning alleged retaliation against whistleblowers convened by the House Oversight Committee.

As a student, Mandell won two of the top prizes at the National Security Law Moot Court Competition and, upon graduation, received Outstanding Pro Bono Service Honors for providing more than 201 hours of pro bono service.
