ResNet Instructions (Apple/Mac)

PLEASE FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS. Failing to do so may result in the deactivation of your internet access. Anti-virus software is required for both PC and Mac computers and for all on-campus internet access, wireless or wired.

Connecting to the Drexel ResNet Isolated Network

If you have trouble after trying these instructions, please see the Before You Call section below.

Ethernet Cables

  1. Please make sure you have a network cable (cables with clear ends available for purchase at the bookstore or another store) and that it is plugged into the wall's network jack and into your computer.
  2. Make sure you are plugging into the correct network jack. A list of active jacks in Residence Halls can be found here.
  3. Visit http://dormproxy.irt.drexel.edu.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to register your jack. Once successful, you will be prompted to restart your computer.

If you have trouble accessing http://dormproxy.irt.drexel.edu

  • You might be plugged into the wrong port on your wire station. Check the Residence Hall Active Network Jacks List to verify it is active.
  • Disable your wireless connection.
    • On the top right of your screen, click the symbol with curved lines (the leftmost symbol of this picture):

    • Choose Turn Airport Off.

Common Questions and Issues

Deleting Cookies in Safari

  1. Click on the Safari menu.
  2. Choose Reset Safari.
  3. Choose Clear History, Remove All Cookies and Empty cache.
  4. Then click on Reset.
  5. Exit and re-enter Safari.
  6. Go back to http://dormproxy.irt.drexel.edu.

Deleting Cookies in FireFox

  1. Click Tools and select Clear Private Data.
  2. Make sure that Cache and Cookies are selected.
  3. Click on Clear Private Data Now.
  4. Exit and re-enter browser.
  5. Go back to http://dormproxy.irt.drexel.edu.

Before You Call

If none of the above suggestions work to resolve your issues accessing http://dormproxy.irt.drexel.edu, here are some more advanced things to try:

  1. Click the search icon to the top right (looks like a magnifying glass):

  2. Type terminal in the spotlight window that appears.
  3. In the white window that appears, you will see something like ComputerName:~You$ at the top. Type next to that:

    sudo ipconfig set en0 DHCP

    and press Enter.

    Note: This command will require you to enter your computer password. TYPE IT IN VERY CAREFULLY. Be aware that when you type your password in, the typing will not appear on your screen, but it will still register.

    Note: If you are using a Mac Pro [Desktop] that has two Ethernet ports, you might need to replace en0 with en1.
  4. Try accessing http://dormproxy.irt.drexel.edu again.

If none of the above suggestions work to resolve your issues, please do the following:

  1. Click the search icon to the top right (looks like a magnifying glass):

  2. Type terminal in the spotlight window that appears.
  3. In the white window that appears, you will see something like ComputerName:~You$ at the top. Type next to that:

    ifconfig en0

    Note: If you are using a Mac Pro [Desktop] that has two Ethernet ports, you might need to replace en0 with en1.

    and press Enter.
  4. A lot of information will appear on your screen. Please find the following labels and write down the information.

    inet (looks like 10.19.33.21)

    ether (looks like 00:23:df:9f:52:86)
