Regular RSS Feeds

Regular feeds are created using the RSS module in Sitecore. This can be found under sitecore/Content/RSS Feeds/

First, create a new item.

Then choose the appropriate settings. Below is a list of descriptions for items that are not self-explanatory.

Syndication Feed
Syndication root - The page you want to pull data from.

Feed XML, Sitecore sitename, Host Name – do not need to be changed. Only used for static feeds.

Syndication Info
All of the information in this section allows you to choose custom settings that you could not get from an embedded feed.
Title & Description – Change to what makes sense for your site.

Link - Used to get the user back to your site, for further browsing. You can leave this blank, at it will default to the page you have designated the feed from, or you could specify “http://drexel.edu/coe,” for example, and it will link back to your homepage.

Write author - displays the name & sometimes email of who ever made the page. Best to choose “no.”

Syndication Settings
Include Updates - Turn this on if you want an updated page to reappear again at the top of the RSS feed. If you turn this off and the item is too far down on the feed, it will either not be shown (if you have Maximum age set) or will simply be buried somewhere down the list.

Maximum Age - The age of an item before it is removed. The format is days.hours:minutes:seconds. So, for items 10 days old to be removed you would type: 10.00:00:00

Recursive - This will pull data from any child page under the one you chose in Syndication Root. If you would prefer not to have child items displayed, but still want an RSS feed for them, you can choose to create multiple feeds.

Syndication Fields
Title Field Name – Blank defaults to title
