Korman Classrooms Are Going Offline - Beginning in June 2016
Korman Computing Center Expansion Project
The Korman Center Expansion Project begins June 2016 and will continue for more than a year. Artist renderings (below) illustrate the beautiful results, including extensive work to be done on the Quad (first image).
Demolition and construction will create noise and vibration across the entire timeframe of the project, and thus preclude high-quality teaching, learning, and training activities from taking place in Korman classrooms and training rooms. The current Project Plan timeframe indicates that Korman rooms will be available again for Fall Quarter, September 2017.
As part of the initial renovations, a new rear entrance (third image) and completely redesigned front lobby and main entrance (second image) will be constructed. The entrance will be shifted slightly north to better facilitate pedestrian traffic in and around the Quad and surrounding buildings.
One real showpiece of this project will be the vaulted student-centric space in the extended eastern facade (third image). This inviting space will be filled with sunlight and provide student gathering and group work spaces, new seating, surfaces, and technology -- all complementing the beautification of the green spaces and affordances added throughout adjoining walkways.
As this project progresses, we will provide updates concerning the timeframes for Korman classroom and training room availability.
So, please pardon our dust in the meantime, but we can all agree that the inconvenience, although considerable, will certainly be worth it in the end.
