Using the ListServ Web Interface

The first time you log in at https://lists.drexel.edu, a cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie, which keeps you logged in, will remain until you clear your browser cache or logout.

If you own only one list, you will automatically "manage" that list via any changes or commands you perform in the Web Interface.

If you own more than one list, you will see them in a drop-down menu under "List Management" > "List Dashboard"; you will need to first select the list you want to manage; you will "manage" that list via any changes or commands you perform in the Web Interface until you select another list, or close the Web page.

Be sure to read any help text present! Help text on any page is relevant for that page.

List Management Menu

The List Management drop-down menu is where you will be able to perform all list management functions.

  • List Dashboard
Presents an overview of the lists that you own. From here, you will be able to see the lists you own, view their subscribers, view their configurations, and view/edit other options.

  • List Configuration
Presents the following page options: List Configuration Wizard, List Configuration Tasks, Alphabetic Keyword List, and Manual List Configuration. These pages let you view or edit the configuration of a list. The list configuration tells the list how to function: Where to send responses to messages, who can send messages to the list, whether or not subscription is open or done by the owner, etc. This variety of options can be customized even after the list has been created. Some options ("keywords") can only be edited by a ListServ administrator.

  • List Reports
Here, you can use a variety of options to organize your lists into a "report." You can include or exclude lists based on the criteria at the top. List reports make it easy to see what types of lists you own, especially if you own a lot.

  • Customization
Lists can be customized with templates. For example, if you want a footer attached to every message sent to a list, you can set one up via "Mail Templates." Templates can also be set for lists in the Web Interface, but these are rarely, if ever, used.

  • Subscriber Management
Most list management functions are conducted here. On this page, you can add/remove subscriber addresses one at a time, add/remove subscribers in bulk, review the current subscribers on the list, or review subscriptions options for one of the subscribers on the list.

Note: For bulk subscription updates, ListServ will only accept one file format for the added/removed. That format is Plain Text (.txt extension). This is the native format for Notepad or other similar plain text editors. If your addresses are in Excel, you can copy down the column and paste them into Notepad, then save the file to your Desktop.

  • LISTSERV Command
Lists can also be managed or reviewed via direct commands to ListServ. These commands are different from email commands sent to ListServ to manage a list, and for that reason, this page is rarely used except by list administrators.

Subscriber's Corner

This page (accessed via the top navigation bar) is where you can view lists that YOU are subscribed to. Here, you can post messages to lists that allow you to post, subscribe/unsubscribe from lists with open subscription, and view your subscription options for each list.

Email Lists

This page, the default landing page, is only useful if any of your lists were set up to archive. If not, you can ignore this page.
