Backing Up University Owned Computers
To help faculty and staff avoid an unfortunate loss of data and information from their university-owned computers, IRT offers the Connected Backup service. IRT partners with IPR International to offer a similar service for the personally-owned computers of students, faculty and staff.
Connected Backup operates transparently; you can schedule the backup and continue to work as it runs. Self-serve file recovery brings users back to productivity quickly and independent of any IT assistance.
IRT offers three options for backing up data on Drexel-owned computers; each has a $50 one-time setup and license fee.
|Name||Files included in backup||Limit||Price|
Productivity* documents in Desktop, Favorites, and My Documents folders.
||Productivity* documents anywhere on the start-up hard drive.
||Files on the start-up hard drive with exceptions, including but not limited to
audio, video, and temporary files.
* Productivity documents include all Microsoft Office documents, Adobe Acrobat (.PDF), Rich Text (.RTF) and plain text (.TXT) documents; it does not include operating system, programs, movie, picture, or other file types.
The Bronze and Silver packages can be used to restore the documents you have created; the Gold package is designed to restore your entire operating system, applications, and documents.
To order the Connected Backup service for a university-owned computer, send a request by email to firstname.lastname@example.org and specify which option you want, the user-id of the person whose computer will be backed up, and that user's campus telephone extension. IRT will send a quote to the department to authorize the $50 one-time setup charge and the monthly recurring service fee (which will appear as a monthly charge to the department's specified account).
