Online Learning Council
The Vision for the Online Learning Council is that an inclusive array of dedicated academic and administrative representatives from across the Drexel University community comes together on a regular basis to focus on enhancing the academic experience of its faculty and students in various ways. The OLC will develop, demonstrate, and share strategies that will have positive and lasting impact on the design, delivery, and outcomes of Drexel’s online, hybrid, and enhanced face-to-face courses.
The Mission of the Online Learning Council will enable the OLC Vision to become a reality through the work of its Committees focused on (but not limited to) course quality, student services, student retention, scalability, and accessibility through communication, discovery, training, information sharing, support, partnerships, and cross-discipline engagement.
The OLC is open to all interested Drexel faculty, administrators, and staff, with details about committee participation posted on the OLC website. Drexel’s Office of Communications will provide ongoing information about OLC events – except for committee meetings – to all Drexel University employees.
The Senior Vice President for Online Learning (as appointed by the Provost) serves as the director of the OLC and chair of the Executive Steering Committee. A coordinator is chosen from among the professional staff.
Executive Steering Committee
The Executive Steering Committee supports the OLC mission by reviewing OLC committee reports for recommendations on strategic priorities related to technology enhanced learning. The OLC Fellows Group supports the OLC Mission by serving as ambassadors and champions of the Council throughout the Drexel community, to ensure that its work is effectively implemented. The Fellows will have specific areas of focus.
Learn more about the Fellows.
Each committee will have a specific purpose, which will, in turn, enable the OLC to achieve its collective Mission. Working within their respective areas, committee members will discover, vet, share, support, and showcase effective approaches for Drexel educators and administrators to use for enhancing the Drexel online student experience.
The OLC Director will appoint one faculty member and one staff member on each committee, to serve as co-chairs. The Chair of the Faculty Senate will also appoint a maximum of two faculty members to each committee.

- There will be three OLC member meetings each year - one each in the fall, winter and spring terms - to furnish updates on the state of technology-enhanced learning, both nationally and at Drexel.
- Committee meetings will occur at times determined by the co-chairs.
- The Collaboratory is an event that will take place twice a year (fall/spring), to provide a forum for OLC members to showcase projects and engage in collaborative discussion with their peers.
Committees will complete and submit quarterly written reports to the OLC Director, detailing their activities and accomplishments during that period. These reports will include an executive summary followed by a comprehensive narrative. Examples will be provided to the committee chairs.
