Funding: Stipends of up to $120,000 annually
Purpose: To make a positive contribution to development and implementation of health policies that affect older Americans. The program offers two different tracks: (1) residential track includes 9-to-12-month placement in Washington, D.C. or at state agency and (2) non-residential track includes health policy project and brief placement(s) through year at relevant sites.
Eligibility: Physicians, nurses and social workers with demonstrated commitment to health and aging issues and desire to be involved in health policy at federal, state or local levels. Other professionals with clinical backgrounds (e.g., pharmacists, dentists, clinical psychologists) working in field of health and aging also eligible to apply. ALZHEIMER’S & RELATED DISORDERS
Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, Charles River Discovery Research

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Pilot Research Grants

Funding: Max of $40,000 in direct costs for 1 yr, plus 10% indirect costs
Purpose: High-risk pilot grants to test novel ideas. Funding is provided for one year to test innovative ideas or untested methods and gather sufficient preliminary data to apply for longer-term funding. Supports fundamental as well as applied studies, non-clinical or clinical in nature, including projects in patient management, care and rehabilitation.
Eligibility: Person indicated as PI in an application is personally and actively responsible for conduct of research and considered eligible by his or her institution to apply for a research grant. Purpose: To support research aimed at developing treatments for the muscular dystrophies and related diseases of the neuromuscular system
Eligibility: Research Grant. Must be independent investigators and hold an MD, PhD, D.Sc or equivalent. Must be professional or faculty member (Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor) at an educational, medical or research institution. Applicants must be qualified to conduct and mentor a program of original research. Development Grant, must hold an M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc. or equivalent and be member of research team. Must be qualified to conduct program of original research under supervision of PI.

PARKINSON’S DISEASE
The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research
Deadline: June 1, 2011 (pre-proposal)
Funding: $250,000 over 2 years
Purpose: The Edmond J. Safra Core Programs for PD Research, part of the Foundation's annual Pipeline Programs, is a series of three funding opportunities that seek investigator-initiated proposals. The Foundation is currently accepting applications for the Target Validation program, which supports work demonstrating whether modulation of a novel biological target has impact in a PD-relevant animal model – an essential early step to the development of potential targeted therapies.
Eligibility: Post-doctoral fellows are NOT eligible to apply as PIs for Target Validation projects.

American Association of Family Physicians Foundation

Funding: Up to $50,000
Purpose: The Joint Grant Awards Program (JGAP) supports research that poses questions of high relevance to Family Medicine. The program goals are to support research of value to the practicing family physician; encourage proposals by junior investigators; and fund pilot studies.
Eligibility: The following candidates may apply: Individual family physicians, Family Medicine organizations or associations, Family Medicine residency programs, Departments of Family Medicine, educational and health care institutions or organizations that will use the JGAP support exclusively for research projects directly involving and impacting Family Medicine.
The principal investigator or one of the co-investigators must be an AAFP member. JGAP encourages the submission of proposals for which a family physician is the principal investigator.

PHARMACOLOGY
American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics Young Investigator Award
Deadline: May 12, 2012 Application
Funding: $35,000
Purpose: Intended to support a fellow or junior faculty member in clinical pharmacology or related field who is engaged in clinical/translational research. ASCPT broadly defines clinical research to be investigation in clinical pharmacology that is hypothesis-driven research that is focused on drug discovery and molecular research, drug development, drug action and disposition, clinical trials, regulatory sciences, therapeutics and outcomes research.
Eligibility: Ph.D., M.D., other professional. Citizenship or Residency Unrestricted. The applicant must be in a fellowship program focused on clinical pharmacology or must be within one year of the anniversary date of their faculty appointment. Applicant should be working in a lab or clinical research setting. Applicants should be planning an investigative career in clinical pharmacology.

The Preeclampsia Foundation

Purpose: The Preeclampsia Vision Grant program funds medical research pertaining to the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. New for this year is the announcement of grant funding for proposals on the application of health services research to the field of preeclampsia. The focus is on health delivery strategies such as enhancement of health care distribution, patient education, patient safety, and guideline development and/or utilization. Pfizer, Inc. 2012 ASPIRE Rheumatology Research Awards

Funding: Up to $100,000 for 2 years
Purpose: to increase the understanding of health disparities as it relates to rheumatoid arthritis in the Hispanic and other underrepresented populations in the following areas: epidemiology and current trends in the diagnosis and management, clinical phenotypic differences, and genomic research into the heterogeneity of and within the targeted population.

ACR REF/AF Career Development Bridge Funding Award

Funding: Up $75,000 over one year
Purpose: Bridge funding to promising investigators so they have highest likelihood of achieving success in obtaining longer-term career development awards in rheumatology.
Eligibility: Must be American College of Rheumatology or Associate Rheumatology Health Professional members with MD, PhD, or equivalent from accredited institution. MD/PhDs are eligible to apply. Must have received a score on their NIH K08, K23, or VA CDA-2 award. Only applicants who received funding decision or scored over published payline will be considered for funding. SURGERY
American Surgical Association Foundation (ASAF) Fellowship
Deadline: Jun 15, 2012 Full Proposal
Funding: $75,000 per year, renewable.
Purpose: To support and encourage young surgeons who choose careers in investigation and academic surgery. During the fellowship years, the awardee should have a primary role in research and teaching. The fellow should have a faculty position following the fellowship in the department of surgery of the sponsoring institution.
Eligibility: PhD., MD, other professional. The applicant must have completed an ACGME-approved residency in general surgery or a surgical specialty and hold a faculty appointment in an accredited medical school or a similar medical institution. The application for the fellowship must be submitted within five years from the time that the applicant has completed their residency. Acceptance of other career development or fellowship awards precludes application for the ASAF Fellowship.
