The Drexel University Alumni Board of Governors has established a Grants Program to provide financial support to recognized student organizations.
The Board evaluates funding proposals and provides financial support for activities hosted by recognized student organizations that increase the interaction between students and alumni, enhance the student experience, promote tradition, support academic excellence, reconnect alumni to the university, create a greater awareness of the Alumni Association, and promote the Association as a relevant and integral part of the University community.
The Drexel University Alumni Association annually awards scholarships to current Drexel students based on demonstrated leadership and achievement under the Alumni Leadership, Alumni Legacy, and Alumnae Planning Board Scholarships criteria below.
- Applicants must currently be juniors. Recipients will be selected on the basis of leadership demonstrated through participation in University activities and involvement in community organizations and activities.
- Applicants must be children or grandchildren of Drexel alumni* who are currently sophomores, pre-juniors or juniors. Recipients will be selected on the basis of overall scholastic achievement, student activities and community involvement.
Please note that this Alumni Legacy Scholarship offered by the Alumni Association is not the same as the $3,000 award offered in financial aid packages for children and grandchildren of Drexel alumni (see below).
- Applicants must be female students who are currently juniors. Recipients will be selected on the basis of merit demonstrated through scholastic achievement and leadership within the University and community.
Note: All applicants must be in good standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and must have been enrolled at Drexel University for at least three terms. Students who have already been awarded a full tuition scholarship are not eligible. Past Alumni Legacy Scholarship recipients are ineligible to apply for the Alumni Legacy Scholarship in subsequent years, though they are not prohibited from applying for the Alumni Leadership or Alumnae Planning Board Scholarships.
Scholarship recipients are announced during Alumni Weekend in May and scholarship awards are subject to the regulations of the Office of Financial Aid. Scholarship funds are applied for the following Fall Term and recipients must be registered for a full-time schedule at that time.
*Legacy students are children or grandchildren of alumni of Drexel University, Drexel University College of Medicine, and of the predecessor institutions of the College of Medicine and College of Nursing and Health Professions: Hahnemann Medical College/University, Woman’s Medical College, Medical College of Pennsylvania, Allegheny University, and MCP Hahnemann University.
Nicholas P. Pipino Memorial Scholarship
The Nicholas P. Pipino Memorial Foundation was founded by family, friends, and volunteers seeking to stop senseless acts of violence and also preserve their fond memories of Nick Pipino, a Drexel University student who was fatally stabbed outside Cavanaugh's Restaurant & Bar on December 19, 1992, where he worked part-time as a bartender while pursuing an undergraduate degree at Drexel.
In keeping with Nick's love for the outdoors, the foundation has organized the University City 5K Run since 1993 as a way to make something positive come out of Nick's untimely death. The foundation has also partnered with Drexel University creating scholarship opportunities which enable young individuals to obtain an education without the demands of part-time employment and allows the student to focus on his or her education. The relationship between Drexel and the Nicholas P. Pipino Memorial Foundation provides financial assistance and a quality education to enthusiastic students who are eager to meet the realistic demands of the professional world.
