Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management
The BS in Hospitality Management offers four distinct concentrations, enabling students to pursue a career track early in their studies.
Food and Beverage Management
Students concentrate on the management of restaurants, catering operations, and contract food service. Coursework covers catering management; purchasing; continental, ethnic, and regional cuisine; wine and spirits; fine dining; contract food service management; and cost controls in hospitality.
Gaming and Resort Management
Students are provided with the managerial, technical and operational expertise that is integral to pursuing a career in the casino and resort segments of the hospitality industry. Courses include gaming and casino management, resort management, security and loss prevention, gaming law and policy, gaming information systems, and current issues in gaming. Students will learn on "live" slot machines through a partnership with Bally Technologies in the Dennis Gomes Memorial Casino Training Lab. Additional class activities include site visits to casinos and guest lecturers from the industry.
Coursework covers the administration of hotels and resorts including the following areas: lodging administration, resort management, hotel sales and marketing, conventions and trade shows management, and hospitality industry administration.
Travel and Tourism
Students focus on the business end of the international travel and tourism business, including the following areas: tourism economics, convention management, cultural and heritage tourism, current issues in travel and tourism, and guest lecture series.
