Drexel Human Resources, in partnership with the Office of Faculty Affairs and Student Life, is pleased to announce a special day of mindfulness workshops, led by author, lecturer and mindfulness expert Michael Carroll, that will be open to the entire Drexel community on Wednesday, April 18.

Amid all the competing demands for our time, attention and talent, how can we remember and stay connected to our purpose as a student, faculty member or professional staff member? In our day-to-day lives filled with multiple competing demands, how can we remember our true purpose and cultivate connection and meaning?

Join us on April 18 as we explore the powerful potential of mindfulness to help us cultivate meaning, purpose and joy in our own lives and in our Drexel University community. Carroll, author of Awake at Work, The Mindful Leader, and other influential books on bringing mindfulness to the workplace, will lead each session.

You are welcome to attend one or multiple sessions described below, as your schedule allows. All events will be held in Behrakis Grand Hall, Creese Student Center, at 32nd and Chestnut streets, and will be simultaneously webcast. Faculty and professional staff are asked to register through Career Pathway in order to attend in person or via live webcast. Students do not need to register.

It’s easy to feel like our lives are passing us by. When we’re relentlessly busy, we often miss the most sacred and tender moments that unfold before us, at home and even at work. It’s easy to push past your emotions or to get stuck in a certain level of performance and speed. Being busy isn’t always a problem, but being busy all the time and not knowing how to take time out for yourself, your family, your friends, and colleagues at work can leave you feeling depleted and angry, rather than living a life that you love.

This session will help you explore how to slow down at home and at work, and how to engage with life more fully so that you can enjoy your life, regardless of what challenges life offers up.

College can be a challenging place. Whether an employee or a student, navigating the ups and downs of work, classes, or co-op is often difficult. At times, we can fall short of our intended goals. When things get tough, it’s important to know how to recover, move on, and learn from our experiences.

This session will provide students, faculty, and professional staff members the opportunity to learn about resilience on the college campus. We will explore how to stay centered through the ups and downs of university life, and we will discuss how falling short can often be a valuable learning experience.

About Michael Carroll

Carroll has more than 35 years of experience holding human resources executive positions with Wall Street and publishing firms as Bankers Trust Company, Shearson Lehman Brothers/American Express, Paine Webber, Simon & Schuster Publishing, and the Walt Disney Company. He is the author of Awake at Work (2004), The Mindful Leader (2007) and Fearless at Work (2012), and has lectured on the topic of leadership and mindfulness at Harvard Business School, Wharton Business School, Columbia University, Swarthmore College, Yale University and other institutions throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia and Europe. Carroll’s books will be available for sale at each event.
