Voluntary Benefits

Short-Term Disability Insurance

(Full-time Employees)

Short-term Disability coverage provides a non-taxable benefit of 60% of your weekly base pay during period of disability. Short-Term Disability benefits begin after 30 continuous days of disability, or after all available sick time has been exhausted (whichever is later).

Any active disability claim in effect as of 12/31/2009 will remain with CIGNA.

Supplemental (Voluntary) Life Insurance

This option gives you the opportunity to elect Group Term Life Insurance coverage for:

  • 1, 2, 3, or 4 times your annual salary, up to maximum benefit of $2,500,000
  • Your spouse/same sex domestic partner up to $150,000
  • Your dependent child - $5,000 or $10,000 per child

Any previously approved Life Insurance policies will continue.  You will not need to complete a new Evidence of Insurability form.

Supplemental Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance

You may purchase Supplemental AD&D Insurance for yourself, your spouse, and/or dependent children.

Note: You do not have to elect coverage for yourself in order to elect spouse and/or dependent child coverage.

Pre-Tax Flexible Spending Accounts

Health Care

Employees may set aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualified, uninsured health care expenses.  By setting the money aside on a pre-tax basis, you are reducing the taxes you pay.  The funds cannot be used to pay insurance premiums.  The minimum contribution is $100 per plan year.  The maximum contribution is $5,000 per plan year.

With enrollment in the health care spending account, you receive a debit card which will allow you to pay for eligible expenses directly from your account.  Please keep your receipts, as you may be required to show them as proof of the eligibility of the expense.

Dependent Care

Employees may set aside money on a pre-tax basis for expenses incurred in order to permit you and, if married, your spouse to work or attend school, rather than caring for a dependent full time.

Under current Internal Revenue service rules, a married employee with a working spouse or a single parent may allocate up to $5,000 in pre-tax dollars to a dependent care account.  This amount is limited to $2,500 in the case of a separate return filed by a married individual.

Note: Your dependent care election may be reduced as a result of IRS regulations.  You will be advised if any changes are necessary.

Commuter Program

(Note: This benefit does not apply to Drexel/Tenet parking lots.)

  • Drexel/Tenet Parking Facilities
    You can elect to pay for parking at affiliated parking garages/lots on a pre-tax basis through the convenience of payroll deduction. You will need to fill out paperwork with Facilities to set this up. If you park at a Drexel/Tenet Parking Lot and have signed a contract with Facilities, you do not need to participate in the Commuter Plan for parking purposes.   • Non-Drexel/Non-Tenet Parking Facilities and Mass Transit
    You can elect to use pre-tax dollars to pay for parking at non-Drexel/non-Tenet parking garages and for mass transit expenses. Orders for passes and permits will be placed online with YSA and payment will be made via pre-tax payroll deductions (up to the monthly limit that the IRS has allotted).  The maximum amount that may be contributed is $230 per month to the mass transit account and $230 per month to the parking account. These maximums are subject to change under Federal tax law. You will be notified if any such changes occur during the year.

Auto and Homeowner’s Insurance

Provides discounted premiums for auto and homeowner’s insurance.  This is a portable plan, and allows employees to choose among direct bill, automatic withdrawal, or payroll deductions on a post-tax basis.  For details, please visit Liberty Mutual or call 1-800-295-3753.

Legal Plan

Hyatt Legal Services provides basic legal services through face to face or phone consultations for simple will preparation and other legal services.

Long Term Care

John Hancock provides Group Long Term Care coverage for a wide range of services including nursing home, assisted living facilities or home health care.

Please be advised that John Hancock is not accepting enrollment applications for long-term care insurance after December 31, 2011. Enrollment applications postmarked after December 31, 2011 will not be processed. This action is being taken due to the adverse impact of the prolonged low interest rate environment on plan pricing.

Also, if you do apply before December 31, 2011 and are accepted for coverage, your premiums may be subject to a material rate increase, subject to state regulatory acceptance. John Hancock has filed a request to increase premium rates, but have not completed the regulatory process in all states.
