Taking a Stand

"Taking A Stand" provides funding, in the form of a matching grant, to departments or offices who seek to improve the health of their employees by providing a sit-stand desk for their benefits-eligible employees.

PLEASE NOTE: This program is FULL for FY 17. Taking A Stand is offered on a first-come first-served basis. Any applications that we are not able to process in FY 17 will be held for priority consideration in FY 18. Please submit your application now in order to receive priority placement on the wait list.

The Benefits

Though research has consistently demonstrated the association of prolonged sitting time with premature mortality and chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, metabolic syndrome and obesity, working adults spend one-third to three-quarters of their days seated. To combat this risk factor, employers have increasingly offered worksite wellness programs in order to decrease their cost of providing healthcare coverage and improve employee health and productivity. Modifying policies and environments to change behaviors tends to be more effective than counseling or education as these interventions reach wider segments of a population and are less labor-intensive.

What will you get?

Human Resources is pleased to offer a matching grant for departments and offices that seek to improve the health of their workers by offering their full-time benefits-eligible employees a modification to their existing desk that allows for a less sedentary workday.

The Varidesk Pro Plus 36" sit-stand desk was chosen for its ergonomic features. The Varidesk adjusts to 11 different heights and does not require any modifications to an existing workspace. It can be easily adjusted from the sitting position to the standing position throughout the day as needed. Please note that we have obtained special pricing through the help of Procurement Services for this desk and cannot accommodate ANY substitutions with other models or other brands. There is no installation required for this desk. It simply sits on top of an existing desk and can be modified throughout the day so that an employee can choose if s/he wishes to sit or to stand.

How does this program work?

We are pleased to offer a limited number of Varidesks for interested full-time benefits-eligible employees per fiscal year. To apply to receive a matching grant for the Varidesk you must fill out the below application and receive approval from your financial manager or department head with signature authority for your office.

The total cost of the Varidesk Pro, including shipping and installation (the Varidesk weighs 50 lbs and will be delivered and placed on your desk for you) is $422. Human Resources will cover $222 of the total cost and your department/office will cover the remaining $200. The Varidesk will remain University property should an employee's position change or should that employee leave Drexel.
