Transportation

As a signatory of the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, Drexel University is dedicated to significantly reducing its fossil fuel consumption and carbon footprint. You can play a role in achieving this goal by walking, biking, taking public transportation, or using more environmentally friendly vehicles to travel to and from Drexel’s campuses. Drexel provides the following green transportation alternatives for its students, faculty, professional staff, and the larger community.

Bicycle Commuting Resources

Thanks to Drexel Athletics, employees who commute to work by bicycle can use locker room and shower facilities at the Daskalakis Athletic Center for free.

Registered bike commuters can use designated "day lockers" in the DAC. The commuter must provide his or her own lock and remove all belongings at the end of each day.

Locker room use does not include use of the Recreation Center or other DAC facilities (e.g., pool, squash, gym). Access to the locker rooms for employees who are not members of the Recreation Center is through the DAC entrance off Lancaster Walk and requires a University ID.

Drexel Athletics and Drexel Green are proud to support this healthy and environmentally friendly benefit for all faculty and professional staff.

Sign up for bike commuter locker access using this online registration form. To access the form, you will need to log in with your Drexel user id and password. E-mail iet23@drexel.edu with any questions.

Drexel Bike Share

Drexel Bike Share

Drexel Bike Share is available to students, faculty, and professional staff to check out a bike, for FREE, for a few hours or a weekend. The Drexel Bike Share program is administered through the Parking Services Office, located in the General Services Building on the first floor, where bikes are checked out and returned. The Parking Services website has more information.

Drexel Bike Share is open to all students and employees with a valid Drexel University ID and in good standing with the University. To be eligible to participate in Drexel Bike Share, the student or employee must complete a Drexel Bike Share Membership Agreement and, prior to each use of Bike Share equipment, a Drexel Bike Share User Agreement. The use of a Drexel Bike Share bike includes a helmet, u-lock, cable, and lock key (the "Equipment"). All Bike Share Equipment is picked up and returned to the Drexel Bike Share hub located in the Parking Services Garage Office (the "Hub"). Drexel makes no representations as to the availability of the Equipment. Use of the Equipment is strictly on a "first come, first served" basis. Reservations for Equipment will not be accepted.

Biodiesel-Fueled Shuttle Buses

Public transportation is a more eco-friendly option than driving in individual vehicles. At Drexel, University shuttle buses are even greener because they all run on biodiesel fuel (20% soy blend). Drexel operates three loop routes, free of charge with a Drexel ID, for its campuses in Philadelphia: University City, Center City, and East Falls. Drexel also has a reciprocity agreement with the University of Pennsylvania, which allows Drexel students to ride Penn’s fixed route campus bus service free of charge. Visit the University Facilities Transportation page for bus service schedules.

Public Transit Discounts

SEPTA ComPass

ComPass is a SEPTA sponsored and Drexel University subsidized discount program that provides a 10% discount on monthly commuter passes to currently enrolled Drexel full-time students as well as full-time and benefits-eligible part-time faculty and staff. SEPTA supplies a 5% discount and Drexel provides a 5% match, giving a 10% discount. Visit the employee discount page or the student discount page for more information.

NJ Transit Quick-Tik

In partnership with NJ Transit, Drexel University also offers an online 25% discount program on NJ Transit for Drexel students. Drexel University full-time undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to purchase a rail, bus, or light rail monthly pass at 25% off of the regular monthly pass price when they enroll online through NJ TRANSIT's Quik-Tik program. Visit the Student Union Quick-Tik page for more information.

Zipcar

Drexel University has partnered with Zipcar, Inc., the world’s leading car-sharing network, to offer a Zipcar car-sharing program on campus. The cost-effective and convenient transportation option is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all students ages 18 and older, as well as faculty and professional staff members. Drexel University members pay a $35 annual fee, and rates on campus Zipcar vehicles start as low as $7 per hour and $69 per day. Gas, insurance, reserved parking spots, up to 180 miles of driving per day, and roadside assistance are included in the hourly and daily Zipcar rates. Cars can be reserved for as little as an hour or for multiple days. Drexel students, faculty and staff can join at the Zipcar Drexel page.

The University will initially offer eight Zipcars, including Ford Focus, Honda Insight (hybrid), Mazda 3, Scion xB, and Kia Soul models, which will be located in several campus lots. Zipcars are self-service and can be easily reserved and accessed 24 hours a day. Participating members with smartphones, including iPhones and Android devices, may download the Zipcar mobile applications to make reservations, lock and unlock the vehicles as well as honk the horn to help locate the vehicle. Reservations can also be made over the phone or by using the Zipcar website.
