Conservation Subdivision
Created by: Christina Deetscreek (Chemical Engineering Major) and Michael Wilks (Environmental Engineering Major)
This project was created during the "Energy Alternatives" course as part of the "Energy" symposium. Horsham Valley Golf Course is being sold to a developer to build homes on. The area is currently zoned R-2, which requires a one acre minimum building lot per home and approximately 45 homes to be built. The developer is requesting the land be rezoned to R-4, which would allow homes to be built on ¼ acre lots and approximately 125 homes to be built. Horsham Township residents are raising attention to this issue and are asking for people who live in the township to voice their concerns with the new zoning requests.
In order to meet the needs of the contractor, the residents of Horsham Township, and the Township itself, we have devised a plan for the development of the Horsham Valley Golf Course using conservation subdivision.

This project was created over the course of two classes during the "Democracy" symposium - "The Election" and "Civil Rights." Initially, the students involved with the project developed, in partnership with the Science Leadership Academy, a teaching module that would assist teachers in educating their students about the Electoral College. The scope of the project was broadened during the second class to include a module on educating students on matters pertaining to LGBT civil rights.
