Items from the Fox Historic Costume Collection will travel to Doylestown’s Michener Museum this spring for the exhibition Philadelphia in Style: A Century of Fashion, celebrating the city’s sartorial legacy with a fabulous display of garments and accessories created, purchased, and worn in Philadelphia between 1896 and the mid-1990s.

Highlights include industry giants who influenced fashion choices throughout and beyond the mid-Atlantic region, including designers Chanel, Dior, Soeurs and Halston, and retailers Nan Duskin, John Wanamaker and Strawbridge & Clothier. The exhibition will be open at the James A. Michener Art Museum from March 13 to June 26. The show comes on the heels of Immortal Beauty, the FHCC’s first large-scale retrospective exhibition in the Pearlstein Gallery last fall. The Robert & Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection is one of the finest teaching and research collections in the country, with more than 14,000 garments, accessories and textiles.

Philadelphia in Style is co-curated by Clare Sauro, Curator of the Fox Historic Costume Collection; and from the Michener, Kirsten Jensen, PhD, Gerry & Marguerite Lenfest Chief Curator and Louise Feder, Assistant Curator. The James A. Michener Art Museum (138 Pine Street, Doylestown, PA) collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits American art and promotes the work of nationally and internationally known Bucks County artists of all eras and creative disciplines.
